![]() Killing Joke - Hosannas From The Basement Of Hell review I somehow missed the boat on Killing Joke for a couple decades, always hearing about them but never checking them out. I finally started with HFTBOH and was blown away. My first comparison is to Morgoth's Feel Sorry For The Fanatic, but I know the influence is actually the other way around. Their dense/heavy/droning sound could easily be a turnoff in different hands, but it compliments their songwriting perfectly. My favorite song is the title track, with its haunting repetition of "I'm not a murderer yet!" evoking visions of a man soon to break, but trying to keep everything from falling apart. Other immediate good ones are Invocation and Walking With Gods, but this is the kind of release where repeated listens will bring out textures and touches you didn't notice before and increase in value as time goes on. In a time where it takes something more and more special to impress me, this album has really stuck with me. I've played it a hundred times and still feel like there's more to absorb. That's definitely a good thing. |
